Cloud for Europe: a total of 29 economic operators from 11 countries submitted their bids

The Cloud for Europe tender for the joint pre-commercial procurement of research and development on cloud computing services is now closed. The purpose of the tender is to research and demonstrate solutions to overcome obstacles for the adoption of cloud computing by the public sector.

A total of 29 economic operators from 11 countries – Italy, Austria, Estonia, France, Germany, the Netherlands, Romania, Slovakia, Spain, Switzerland, and the United Kingdom (with some representing multinational corporations) submitted their bids. A variety of economic operators are involved: 45% represent SMEs, 24% large companies and 31% public research bodies.

The Administrative Committee opened all 24 parcels received by the deadline during its meetings on 24-27 March in Rome.
Most of the offers – 13 in total – were submitted for lot 1 (federated certified service brokerage), followed by 7 offers for lot 2 (secure legislation-aware storage) and 4 offers for lot 3 (legislation execution).

The evaluation committees are finalising the evaluation of the tenders. All three evaluation committees are composed of three experts from different countries. The evaluation is scheduled to be completed in June 2015, so that the framework agreements could be signed in July 2015.
